“I was attending a party with a friend who had just got to Ibadan. Because he had just arrived Ibadan, he had no lady of his own but me I had plenty female friends. So, at the event, my friend spotted a girl and called my attention to her. My friend wanted to go talk to the girl so he stayed a little longer. As he was about to approach her after the event, I called him aside and told him that I felt very strongly in my spirit that I should be the one to talk to the girl and not him. My friend disagreed asking why I’d want to go talk to the girl when I have plenty girls all around me and he had no one.

From afar, I already had an impression of the girl – that she was one of the free girls around. When I looked at how she dressed and stuff, I always thought she was one of those ‘mark and go’ girls. That was why I also wanted to just get in and out too. My friend and I came to an understanding I’d become friends with the girl, ‘mark register’ with her, then move on. Then if he was interested too, he could do the same.

I walked up to the lady and began to chat with her. She said she had observed me as I was carrying myself at the event because I was the MC at the wedding. She said she had wanted to ask for my business card but that she was shy. Immediately, I handed her my business card and she gave me her number. That night I called her and we had a good time talking. About a week later, I invited her to come along with me for an event. She said she wasn’t prepared to go out but I prevailed on her to come and she agreed at last.

At the party, I realized that she was distracted. Later I asked her what was wrong and she told me that she was unhappy because she had recently just gone through a breakup. Me, I didn’t feel any pity for her because it wasn’t like I wanted to date her, I just wanted to ‘mark register’ and move on. At the party, I asked her to be my girlfriend but she said she couldn’t give an answer at that time. Two weeks later, she called me and came over to my place. She told me about her reservations about me as an entertainer and how people like us always have ladies all around us but that still something in her spirit was urging her to give us a shot.

That was how we began.

After we began dating, I began to know her better. However, she’d visit and she would refuse to let me mark register. I’d ask her what’s going on and she’d say nothing. I’d ask if she is a virgin and she’d not answer. That carried on for a while until one day when I got angry and asked her to tell me her status; at least I had become her boyfriend and I deserved to know. She begged me and asked me to give her some time to come out clean with me. In the end, it turned out that she was a virgin. I was impressed!

I began to wonder why her last breakup affected her so much considering that she didn’t lose her virginity. Had it been that the man had entered the place then I would understand being troubled but he did not ‘enter the place’ so why was she so troubled? Apparently it was the emotional investment she had made that hurt her. In that moment, I opened up to her that I only wanted to ‘enter the place’ before and move on but that from then on, nothing like that again. I promised her that I wasn’t going anywhere anymore – that I’d stay instead.

This past September made it three years we’ve been together. I have brought my sleeping mat and with her is where I want to be.

Forever.”
