This is one of three boys I had spotted once I walked into the reading space but I did not have a chance to talk with him during the library session. He was rushing out when I grabbed him by the hand and asked him his name. He wears a serious look for most of the time talk. We talk about the library, his attendance, his friends and finally, I ask him about his dreams.
“When I grow up, I want to be an Automobile Engineer, that is why I have to read and study hard…” he pauses and bites his lower lips, like he is trying to find the right words…“so that I can do the Automobile Engineering,” he says finally.
I chuckle, he laughs very broadly but the laugh vanishes quickly and his serious look takes over.
I probe further: “So which school do you want to study this Automobile Engineering?” He’s quick to reply – “Yes, I want to study it in Oxford.”
I ask further: “where is Oxford….?”
He does not wait for me finish with the question, he jumps right at me with the answer, giggling: “Oxford is in America.” Then he looks into my eyes as I try to hide a small laugh, then he closes he eyes, opens them again. “I think it is in London. London or America, either of the two.”
He says he knows his parents can’t afford Oxford, but he believes that somehow, a miracle will happen.”
